Regulations of the Main Library of Pomeranian Medical University in SzczecinThis is an English translation of the library regulations. For legal purposes only the original Polish text is regarded as authentic.
Regulations for Accessing the Collection
I. Initial Condition and Provisions§ 1
1. The Main Library and Branch no 1 make the library holdings accessible to the public.
2. Holdings belonged to Pomeranian Medical University and the materials acquired by the interlibrary loans are described in the Regulations of the PMU Library. 3. The access to the library collections is provided: a) in the reading room b) in the computer rooms c) by the loans d) by the interlibrary loans 4. The use of the library collections on site is free of charge. 5. The science information, the interlibrary loans services, the photocopy services are provided with a charge by the Main Library of PMU and the Branch no 1. 6. Usage fees for library services are specified in the price list which is issued as an order by the rector of the Pomeranian Medical University at the request of the director of the Main Library.
II. Regulations for the Lending Room§ 2
1. There is open access to the bookshelves in the lending room .
2. Orders for the library materials kept in the storeroom must be delivered via internet not later than 30 minutes before closing the lending room. 3. Usage of the lending room is free of charge for: a) students, PhD students, employees of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin b) staff of the clinical hospitals of the Pomerianian Medical University in Szczecin c) students of other Szczecin universities on the basis of the student interlibrary card issued by their own universities. 4. Healtcare staff of the West Pomerania province can use the lending room after payment of an annual subscription specified in the price list. 5. To borrow the library materials user must have student’s ID or library card. 6. The library cards are issued by the lending room of the Main Library of PMU. 7. Users of the lending room requesting a library card are obliged to complete registration form containing personal details. ID or student’s identity card must be presented at the service desk. 8. Users who are not students of PMU can obtain library card after payment specified in the price list. 9. Filling the registration form the user acknowledges the library regulations. 10. The library card must be taken in person at the service desk. 11. The library card may not be handed over to another person. 12. Changes of personal details must be reported immediately to the library. 13. The loss or damage of the library card must be reported immediately to the library. A duplicate of the library card may be obtained after payment according to the price list. 14. Loans are registered by a library computer system on the basis of the barcode of an item and library card or student’s ID. 15. Users should check their personal library account and report any comments to the librarian on duty. 16. At the beginning of the academic year the student of PMU can borrow maximum 7 books, later, starting from 1st November additional items can be borrowed. 17. The maximum number of borrowed books on student’s library account is 15, employee of PMU – 20. 18. Other users can borrow maximum 5 books according to the period defined for every particular item. 19. At the beginning of the academic year number of books specified in § 2, p. 17 can be limited. 20. The library can limit a period of lending and request an erlier return of library books. 21. The item may be renewed for a longer term under condition: a) there are another copies of that item available in the library b) there isn’t a hold request on that item made by another user. 22. In case of items borrowed for long-term, the library can request user to return the item to the library. 23. Students are obliged to obtain a signature in their credit books at the end of academic year. 24. Students of PMU owning interlibrary identity card can use libraries of other Szczecin universities. Interlibrary identity card is issued free of charge by the lending room /one photography required/. 25. Students of PMU owning interlibrary identity card have to obtain confirmation of clear account in other libraries. 26. In case of losing the interlibrary identity card, confirmation of clear account in other libraries (libraries within interlibrary cooperation agreement) must be provided to the PMU Library. 27. Before receiving diploma or resigning the job in PMU employees, PhD students and students of PMU must have a clear library account and give back interlibrary card. 28. Users are obliged to treat the library materials with care and attention. There is prohibited to tear pages out of the books, to underline and write in the books. 29. In case of losing or damage library materials user is obliged to: a) buy a copy of the same or the newest edition, or b) if the item is impossible to buy in Poland, the manager of the library will set the amount of money to pay, or c) buy another book indicated by the library, or d) return a binded photocopy of an item at user’s expence. 30. In case the borrowed item is not return by its due date: a) user receives written admonition b) fines are applied by integrated library system Aleph according to the price-list c) fine for underlining, making notes on the library materials are applied according to the price-list d) temporary or permanent suspension in the rights of using lending room. 31. It is not possible to borrow: a) books published before 1945 b) PhD theses c) special collections d) journals e) publications kept in the reading room f) library original documents delivered by interlibrary loans. 32. Library documents mentioned in point 31 can be read in the reading room only. 33. Users entering the lending room are obliged to take off their coats or jackets and leave them together with hand-luggage in the lockers. Using mobile phones is prohibited.
III. Regulations for the Reading Room§ 3
1. Reading room is opened for public.
2. The reading room’s collections can be used on site only. 3. There is open access to the bookshelves in the reading room. 4. Library materials kept in the storeroom are available after making an order to the librarian on duty, not later then 30 minutes before the closing time. 5. Users can use their own computers and copy equipment (for example: camera) on condition that will not disturb other users. 6. All users of the reading room are obliged to: a) leave their coats and jackets together with hand-luggage in the lockers b) leave an identity document to the librarian on duty c) report the publications brought inside to the librarian on duty and present them when leaving the reading room d) return items undamaged and report any defects to the librarian on duty e) keep silence f) refrain from eating, smoking and using mobile phones.
IV. Regulations for the Interlibrary Loans§ 4
1. To acquire literature not available in the PMU Library collections and in the other Szczecin libraries, users can get it by interlibrary loans service.
2. Interlibrary loans are provided by the Main Libray of PMU and the Branch no 1. 3. The interlibray loans can be used by: a) students, PhD students, employees of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin b) healthcare staff of the West Pomerania province c) Polish and foreign libraries 4. User is obliged to show valid library card to make an interlibrary loan. 5. It is not possible to acquire literature available in other Szczecin libraries via interlibrary loans. 6. The library original documents delivered by other libraries can be read on site only. Interlibrary loans are provided with a charge. Fees are specified in the price list. 7. Photocopies of documents users can take for their own after payment according to the price list.
V. Regulations for the Computer Rooms§ 5
1. Computer rooms can be used by:
a) students, PhD students, employees of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin b) staff of the clinical hospitals of the Pomerianian Medical University in Szczecin c) students of other Szczecin universities on the basis of the student interlibrary identity card d) healtcare staff of the West Pomerania province after showing the valid library card or any other identity document. 2. Librarians on duty assist in searching library databases. 3. Searching databases is providing with a charge according to the price list. 4. User’s data can be saved on their own pen drives and e-mailed without a charge or printed with a charge according to the price list. 5. It is forbidden to change configuration of original system, to install another software, playing games and watching movies on library workstations. 6. It is necessary to report any problems with equipment to the librarian on duty. 7. There is a possibility to make a booking on computer workstation personally or by phone. 8. The time of using computers can be limited in case of deepen interest. 9. Before finishing the computer session user should clear all entered data. 10. If the user leave his workstation without reported to the librarian on duty, it will be accessible to other user without saving data. 11. The librarian on duty can finish of the user’s session in case of breaking library regulations. 12. All users of the computer rooms are obliged to leave their coats and jackets together with hand-luggage in the lockers. 13. Eating and using mobile phones is not allowed in the computer rooms.
VI. Copy room§ 6
1. Making the photocopies of library materials according to the users orders.
2. Making the photocopies of library materials according to the orders of Polish and foreign libraries. 3. Making the photocopies according to the other units of PMU. 4. Scanning of library materials according to the users orders. 5. Scanning of library materials according to the orders of Polish and foreign libraries. 6. Binding materials for PMU Library. 7. Binding materials for other units of PMU. 8. The fees for services mentioned above are specified in the price list. VII. Final decisions§ 7
1. Breaking library regulations, in particular:
a) damage or theft of library materials b) lack of proper reaction on call for return library materials c) improper behaviour in the library form grounds for applying the sanctions. 2. Users who break library regulations are liable to the following sanctions: a) temporary or permanent suspension in the rights of library user b) notification about breaking library rules adressed to the dean or manager of the user c) bringing a case before a court. 3. Decision about applying sanctions is made by the director of the Main Library. 4. Settlement of matters not regulated by library regulations belongs to the directior of the PMU Library. 5. The decisions of director of the Main Library may be appeled to the rector of PMU. 6. Regulations are voted by the Senate of PMU. 7. Any changes to these regulations shall be made in accordance with the procedure in p. 6. |
