Research

Main interest

• clinical and experimental electrophysiology (ERG, EOG, WPW) of vision, macular potentials
• microsurgery of the front and rear part of the eye
• laser treatment of eye disease, monitoring and evaluation using static perimetry and electrophysiological methods
• diagnosis and treatment of tumors of the protective elements of the eye and orbit

Current research projects

• electrophysiological studies in some systemic diseases and glaucoma
• utilization of the "narrow incision" technique and phacoemulisification in microsurgical treatment of glaucoma and in surgery of the vitreous body (vitrectomy) and retina
• efficacy of laser treatment in glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy using static perimetry and modern electrophysiological methods
• cytological, immunocytochemical and molecular genetic studies in tumors of the eye, protective elements and orbit

Research methods used

• UTAS (LKC, USA) electrophysiology unit with Ganzfeld chamber and pattern stimulation
• fine needle biopsy: classic, immunocytochemical and molecular genetic examination

Future research plans

• pit ERG in ophthalmological diseases
• pattern ERG in the diagnosis of early and asymptomatic glaucoma
• microsurgery of glaucoma: narrow incision and phacoemulsification, utilization of silicone lenses
• the use of argon trabeculoplasty and Nd-YAG laser in open- angle glaucoma
• studies of fine needle biopsy specimens from tumors using immunocytochemistry and molecular genetic techniques
