• the role of endogenous beta-endorphin in syndromes with abnormal secretion of cortisol and growth hormone
• comparative studies of the influence of ACE inhibitors (enalapril, lisinopril) and calcium channel blockers (nifedipine) on early diabetic nephropathy and on levels of vasoactive compounds in plasma
• the role of atrial natriuretic peptide in regulating sodium balance and arterial blood pressure in endocrine diseases
• evaluation of bone density and some markers of bone turnover in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes in relation to the degree of metabolic compensation and vascular complications
• changes in the expression of genes coding for renin and the role of some growth factors and their kidney receptors during the development of diabetic nephropathy in man
• the frequency of auto-antibodies in endocrine diseases and the relationship between their titre and endocrine pathology
• urinary secretion of glycosaminoglycans (GAG) in patients with Graves' disease

• LIA chemiluminescence for the study of hormones
• colorimetric methods for the study of glycated haemoglobin and fructosamine
• Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) for studying anti- thyroid antibodies, pyridinoline and deoxypyridinoline
• indirect immunofluorescence in studying ICA insular antibodies in fresh and frozen pancreatic tissue of the 0 blood group
• densitometry

Future research plans

• studies on mutations of the TSH receptor in thyroid nodules
• opacification of the lens as a risk factor in cardiovascular complications of IDDM and NIDDM
• osteoporosis in thyroid diseases
• treatment with derivates of sulfonylurea and biguanides, insulin I levels and diurnal blood pressure pattern in patients with type II diabetes
