Erasmus Policy Statement

Pomeranian Medical University founded in 1948 is situated in Szczecin, the capital of the Western Pomeranian Province in the north-west of Poland. The University participates in comprehensive development of national science and culture as well as education of students and academic teachers, implementing principles of freedom of scientific research and academic teaching.

Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin participates in comprehensive development of national science and culture as well as education of students and academic teachers, implementing the policy for internalization of education and preparing its students for work in a multicultural European community. One of the priorities of the Pomeranian Medical University is to improve standards of Erasmus activities to provide high quality students and teachers mobility. Efforts will be directed towards:

  • increasing the number of partner universities
  • increasing the number of outgoing and incoming students as well as academic teachers (incoming students are enrolled into the English Program designed at Pomeranian Medical University and offered either a long term program - one or two semesters, or a short term program - up to 12 weeks)
  • enhancing the educational offer by introducing the courses thought in English in the new faculties and degrees
  • improving services for outgoing and incoming students (more information about partner universities on the Pomeranian Medical University internet web site, more events organized with students and teachers who had participated in Erasmus activities)
  • enhancing the quality of teaching at all levels of study by introducing new and more attractive forms of medical education (e.g. training with medical phantoms and interactive computer medical training programs, new forms of examinations based on the system of objectively structured clinical examination – OSCE, participation in students scientific groups and conferences, common research projects and exchange of junior scientists)
  • monitoring and updating the ECTS system as well as introducing the ECTS system in the new faculties and degrees
  • participation in the multilateral projects and thematic networks to stimulate cooperation and develop stable relations with partner universities by carrying out common research projects

The Pomeranian Medical University will design its public relations policy and marketing aim at outgoing and incoming students to educate them about Erasmus activities as well as to disseminate the knowledge of Erasmus University Charter, Erasmus Policy Statement and Lifelong Learning Program. This will include publication of leaflets, posters, brochures, articles in the university journal, mass media presentations, university internet web site updating and events organized in cooperation with students and teachers who had participated in Erasmus activities.

The Pomeranian Medical University welcomes students from all social and ethnic backgrounds. The University has an equal opportunities program stating that equality is to be promoted in all activities of the University, including international cooperation. Racism, gender inequality and xenophobia are not an issue within the University. The University prevents racism and xenophobia by:

  • facilitating the integration of international students of the English Program coming from different cultural end ethnic backgrounds with Polish students
  • spreading the knowledge among students about cultural differences

High quality in academic mobility activities in the Pomeranian Medical University are ensured by:

  • selection of students participating in the Erasmus activities based on clear-cut criteria, i.e. learning achievements, obligatory examination checking the knowledge of the language in which courses in the partner University are delivered and an interview
  • full recognition of study periods abroad based on the satisfactory completed study period at the partner university according to the previously signed Learning Agreement
  • application of ECTS system (ECTS catalog is available in printed and online version) regularly updated by Dean’s Office
  • provision of information of curricula of partner universities on the Pomeranian Medical University website and in the printed version available in the Department of Education and International Cooperation
  • regular contact with coordinators from partner universities
  • orientation meetings with the former Erasmus students for the outgoing students just before their participation in the Erasmus program
  • provision of accommodation in the students dormitory for the incoming students, provision of Polish language preparatory courses, organization of orientation sessions, cultural training, social events to integrate incoming Erasmus students with Polish students

High quality in student placements are insured by:

  • establishing the bilateral agreements between the University and the partner hospital
  • selection of students based on learning achievements and knowledge of the required language
  • organization of student placement in partner hospital (accommodation, selection of the Department, contact with coordinators from the partner hospital)

Students placement in the partner hospital requires the following to be recognized:

  • Department of placement is compatible with the designed placement for the particular year of study or placement take start in Nursing Home
  • placement takes part within the summer or winter semester breaks
  • placement positive certificate is issued by the coordinator of the partner hospital
