PostDoctoral-position in regenerative medicine

PostDoctoral-position is offered at the Department of Pathomorphology Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin (PUM), with the option to perform some of the work also at the Department of Molecular Biology, Faculty of Pharmacy in Sosnowiec, SUM.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS:

Research experience in a lab outside of Poland is preferred.

Working fluency in English and Polish.

PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology or related discipline (or MD with relevant practical laboratory experience).

Knowledge of mammalian cell culture.

Knowledge of some of the techniques like: Gene Cloning, qPCR, Electrophoresis (Agarose, PAGE, SDS-PAGE), Cell Culture & Transfection, or Western Blot analysis, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, electron microscopy, reprogramming, transdifferentiation.

You are expected to be a good team-player, understanding that research is a team-work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be expected to analyse the effects of newly synthesized artificial extracellular matrix components, on seeded cells obtained by transdifferentiation.

You will be part of a team working together with other scientists and medical doctors. Part of your responsibility will include, general lab duties, some minor administrative duties, drafting research manuscripts and participation in other collaborative projects.

Major work methods include mammalian cell culture, standard molecular biology methods (especially qPCR), fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and Western blot. You may be requested to attend ~6-months - lab visit abroad.

The lab offers dynamic research environment with strong publishing opportunities, for dedicated individuals.

RENUMERATION:

The position funded from NCN-grant and, is initially offered for 24 months with 3-months trial period, and pays 6000PLN/month, brutto. Relocation package is not provided.

JOB OFFER Post-Doc

A postdoctoral research position is available to participate in a research collaboration between two laboratories, that has been designed to better characterize age related changes in the multipotency of VSELs i their effectiveness in repair of tissue/organ injury

Project Title:

Aging i multipotency of adult stem cells

Project Background:

Sca-1+lin-CD45- very small embryonic-like stem cells (VSELs) are present in adult murine organs, including bone marrow (BM). It has been hypothesized that VSELs are deposited during early gastrulation in developing organs, i survive into adulthood in order to play an important role in tissue rejuvenation as a backup population of pluripotent/multipotent stem cells available for repair of multiple different organs. To support this, as recently demonstrated, BM-residing VSELs can be specified into hematopoietic stem cells, type II pneumocytes of lung alveolar epithelium, i mesenchymal stem cells in vivo. However, the number of VSELs in adult BM decreases with the age.

VSELs differentiated in vitro using co-culture systems can grow spheres that contain multiple differentiated cell types including cells from all three germ layers. Molecular analyses have shown that VSELs have i) primitive euchromatin, ii) intrinsic expression of Oct4 i Nanog with associated hypomethylated promoter state i binding of acetylated histones, iii) bivalent domains at the promoters of homeodomain-containing developmental transcription factors genes, and iv) reactivation of the X chromosome in female VSELs. The unusual level of quiescence of VSELs and their gradual loss from the BM with aging may be controlled by epigenetic changes in certain imprinted genes (i.e., Igf-2-H19, Rasgrf1, Igf2R loci) that regulate signaling of insulin and insulin-like growth factors-1 and -2. This epigenetic state may change with the age.

A postdoctoral research position is available to participate in a research collaboration between two laboratories, that has been designed to better characterize age related changes in the multipotency of VSELs i their effectiveness in repair of tissue/organ injury.

We are looking for a highly motivated person to participate as a post-doctoral fellow within scientific project at the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin with collaboration with Yale Medical School.

  • Ukończone studia stacjonarne/niestacjonarne II stopnia – mile widziany uczestnik studiów doktoranckich.
  • Doświadczenie w pracy laboratoryjnej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem: izolacja kwasów nukleinowych, reakcja PCR, praca ze zwierzętami laboratoryjnymi (myszy), test ELISA, Western blotting.
  • Praktyczna wiedza z zakresu technik badawczych: qRT-PCR, cytometrii przepływowej.
  • Znajomość języka angielskiego w stopniu komunikatywnym
  • Mile widziane min. 1 współautorstwo w publikacji naukowej.

6. Dodatkowymi atutami będą: umiejętność poszukiwania i analizy informacji związanych z realizowanymi zadaniami, umiejętność pracy w zespole oraz komunikatywność.

Opis zadań:

Stypendysta będzie wykonywał zadania w ramach projektu ,,Wpływ hormonów na populację komórek macierzystych ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem populacji bardzo małych podobnych do embrionalnych komórek macierzystych VSELs” - UMO-2014/13/D/NZ3/04632.

Zakres prac stypendysty:

  • analizy cytometryczne różnych populacji komórek macierzystych;
  • praca w laboratorium komórek macierzystych;
  • praca ze zwierzętami doświadczalnymi (myszy);
  • opracowywanie wyników badań na potrzeby publikacji w czasopismach naukowych oraz prezentacji konferencyjnych.
