English proficiency certificates


FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027

 

The following certificates are recognised:

Please pay attention to corresponding minimal levels and / or scores.

 

1. Degree diploma (long cycle, first cycle, second cycle, third cycle):

  • in the field of English Philology or Applied Linguistics (provided that the degree was conducted in Poland)
  • in any field provided that the language of instruction was only English

 

2. Secondary school leaving diploma – provided that the language of instruction was only English (eg. AQA, Edexcel) and the document has been issued in EU

 

3. Secondary school leaving certificate obtained in the Republic of Poland with a positive grade in the English language exam at the advanced level with a score of at least 60%.

 

4. International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)

6. University of Cambridge, ESOL Examinations:

 

7.  Trinity College London:

  • ESOL Skills for Life - B2 level (Level 1)
  • Integrated Skills in English (ISE)  - minimum B2 level (ISE II)

 

8. Educational Testing Service (ETS):

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) -  minimum B2 level (72-94 points)
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL PBT) - minimum B2 level ( minimum 560 points)
  • Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) – minimum B2 level (785-940 points), certificate of passing all four language competences is required.

 

9. City&Guilds - International ESOL Diploma:

(combined IESOL and International Spoken ESOL) - B2 level (Level Communicator)

 

10. Pearson Assessment English:

  • Pearson English International Certificate (PTE General) - B2 level (Level 3)
  • LCCI, English for Business - B2 level (Level 3), certificate of passing all four language competences is required
  • Edexcel - certificate in ESOL International-level B2 (Level 1)

 The following are not recognised as equivalents to a formal proficiency certificate:

  • English (basic / advanced) course grade on a secondary school leaving certificate (including German Abiturzeugnis and Scandinavian certificates)
  • 1 year abroad as an exchange student
  • English-speaking country citizenship (i.e. USA / UK / CAN passport)
  • Certificate of completion of an English course
  • Completion of seminar/s or short-term course/s conducted in English
  • Completion of any preparatory course/s conducted in English
  • Completion of only some courses in English in secondary school or college / university
